What to Expect
The Screening Process
The Screening
When you arrive, you'll change into a gown so Maria can inspect your entire body — including your scalp, between your toes, and under your nails. A dermatoscope is used to closely examine any moles or lesions. Your comfort is always the priority; if you prefer certain areas not be examined, just let us know.
Results & Next Steps
After your screening, Maria will walk you through any findings. If something looks suspicious, she'll explain your options — whether that's monitoring the area, scheduling a follow-up, or performing a biopsy. A biopsy involves carefully removing a small sample of skin to send to a lab for analysis.
Treatment if Needed
If your biopsy returns positive for skin cancer, Maria will walk you through your treatment options based on the type and stage. Treatment may include cryotherapy, surgical excision, electrodesiccation and curettage (ED&C), or referral for more advanced care. If your results are clear, we'll schedule your next annual screening and discuss preventative strategies.

- Do not wear makeup — or bring makeup remover to your appointment
- Avoid tight hairstyles or bobby pins so your scalp can be examined
- Avoid sun exposure before your visit to prevent tanning or burns
- Do not use self-tanner, as it can alter skin and mole color
